Time syncing is only done if the clocks are within a fixed time
period of each other. I believe it defaults to 1000 seconds. If
they are further out than that it could be assumed that the time
zone setting is also out and therefore setting the clock is
meaningless.
This doesn't seem correct. I just set my clock to some random time in
2002, then turned time sync back on (using time.apple.com). It set to
the correct time immediately.
Is the behavior different for non-Apple NTP servers? That would be --
putting it mildly -- stupid.
