Title: Tiger Client & List of Users...an Update!

The Gods were smiling upon my on Thursday when after my original post regarding the list of users not appearing on my Tiger Clients, none other then WGM Guru John DeTroye contacted me with some answers. Many thanks to Matt Rosenberg for all of his help, as his solution did work. What John showed me was a little easier and required a fix on my WGM server rather than on all of the client machines. Here is what we did.

Opened up WGM on the server.
Clicked on the “Computers” tab, highlighted “guest” access and clicked on “preferences”.
Clicked on the “Details” tab within the preferences window, highlighted the “com.apple.loginwindow” preference and clicked “edit”
In this window, there are three tabs. We clicked on the “always” tab and added two new keys.
For the first Key, the name was “StartupDelay”, the type is “integer” and the value is “30”
For the second Key, the name was “AdminHostInfo”, the type is “string” and the value is “DSStatus”

After rebooting the clients, they all worked (some needed two reboots) and now they show a status light for the network users! Much easier than messing with LDAP settings within Directory Access on all of the client machines.

After reading John’s T&T’s for years and some of his posts, It was really cool to be able to chat with him and get a great solution to my problem. I went home and told my wife that I met a celebrity that day!! Many thanks to John D and all of the list (esp Matt) for the help.
