Finder Window shows folders that students can't access

Title: Finder Window shows folders that students can't access
All,

I have my kids logging into a managed client, simple finder environment.  Recently, a student was working on a powerpoint presentation and tried to save it.  When the expanded save window appeared, his finder window where all of the possible loacations for him to save are listed contained prohibitory signs over each one of his folders.  He had to use the pull down menu, choose recent places and find his documents folder there.  It was really odd.  The folders that showed in the finder window as places to save were all connected to the folders in his network home folder, but they could not be accessed.  Does anyone know a fix for this?  It really confuses the kids.

Thanks for the help.
