Running 10.4.11 on the servers, 10.4.10, or 10.4.11 on the clients.
There is an authentication server which also hosts teacher home
directories. the student home directories are hosted on a separate
fileserver also running 10.4.11. Both servers are G5 towers connected
to gigabit ports on the switch (HP Procurve). Both servers re running
windows file services so that windows clients can access sharepoints,
but there is no Active directory integration.

Subject: Freezing up at login
For quite a while now we've had a problem that has more or less
stumped
me. Computers will lock up in the process of logging in. After a bit
of
experimentation I discovered several things about it.

We need more info to help. What version of OS X are you running?
What is
the hardware its running on? Are you using network home directories?
Are
you using an X Serve to host them and/or host MCX? If so what
version of
OS X is on the X Serve? Are you doing any kind of any Active Directory
integration?
