Re: Freezing up at login

I am not certain that Microsoft Office 2004 fonts are causing my problems let alone your ones. With that out of the way.....

You could try just removing the Font Caches. I do this regularly at every logout, followed by a reboot.

Also if you have a moment try scanning the original install disk with a font checking utility such as FontDoctor. When I perform a scan of the Microsoft Office Fonts, I receive various errors. The problem is I am out of my depth with regards fonts IDs and font caches.

I am not sure how serious these problems are or if it is just a bad install disk. One error which I believe could be part of the problem is the fonts ID number conflicts with a base Mac OS 10.4 font.

I am still looking for a good solution or confirmation that Microsoft Office 2004 fonts are actually the root of these problems.

Is there anyone on this list who knows more about the way Mac OS font caches operate or how to alter the font ID numbers?

Alternatively, has anyone managed to stop PowerPoint complaining about missing fonts when it loads?

Thank you.

Yes actually we do

It may be the font caches. Do you have Microsoft Office 2004 installed
on these Machines?

 1. The lockups happen with certain users on certain computers, but
those users can log in normally to other computers, and other users
 can log into that computer
