That attribute is stored in ~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist rather than in the Finder plist (I am guessing because that attribute applies to more apps than just the Finder - such as Save and Open dialogs which aren't Finder items, but that is just a guess). Since .GlobalPreferences.plist is a . file, it will be hidden by the Finder by default, so you won't see it, and you won't see its time stamp changing as you change your settings. You can either change the Finder to show all Hidden files, or your can use the Terminal program and do it from the UNIX side (beware, once you go down the UNIX path, forever will it guide your destiny :-). If you open the .GlobalPreferences.plist file (again, either by making it visible in the Finder and double clicking, or by using the open {path} command in the Terminal) in a app that can edit such files (I use PropertyList Editor which comes with the Developer Tools - it has some major weaknesses, but for my needs it is sufficient), you can see the key entry : Property: AppleShowAllExtensions Class: Boolean Value: Yes On Jan 11, 2008, at 4:19 PM, Stranathan, Dan wrote:
