CVS versus OSX cvswrappers

Does anyone have any experience using a non-OSX based CVS server to store Mac generated sources..?

My CVS server is a Redhat8.0 Linux box running cvs vesion 1.11.2; the Mac is running 10.2.3 with the December edition of Developer tools. When I try to check in any sources (even an empty directory) I get:

cvs [server aborted]: -t/-f wrappers not supported by this version of CVS

In preparation for importing my project builder file I added the stop cvwwrappers from /Developer/tools to my home directory as ".cvswrappers" ... is there something I am missing on the Redhat side..? The CVS server supplied with OS X is older than the one on the Redhat box, so I am at a loss to understand what's up...

regards,
David
