yuck

Reading through the cocoa-dev archive, there seems to be consensus along the lines of "One shouldn't force something onto the Dock, it's up to the user to define." Which I'm in agreement with too, one should prompt the user for that. So, my Installer will do the right thing and prompt first.

That's still bad. Why confuse the user with such unnecessary doodad?

Haven't seen a single application that does put things in the Dock. You might want to use the Help menu instead - if it's something about support, mail back etc. that is. If it's not, a mention in the documentation should suffice.
