split view

Hello,
I have a split view that contains an outline view on the left and a custom view on the right. The interface is similar to a Finder or an iTunes windows. When I resize the view I want the width of the outline to be constant like Finder and iTunes windows. Can I make this happen by changing some auto-resize settings in IB or do I need to do something programmatically perhaps during the window resize? Thanks for any advice.
