[ANN] Shovel - Third-Party "Software Update"

Hi,

I'm happy to announce Shovel, a "Software Update" clone for third parties.

Shovel scans the user's hard disk for non-Apple applications and then checks for new versions of these applications, and optionally downloads the updates and installs them.

This works by using the MacPAD file format: Developers upload a MacPAD file (a .plist file) to their web server, and put a file named "MacPAD.url" that contains the URL of that file in their application's "Resources" folder.

MacPAD files can also be used for submitting your application to <http://www.macshareware.net>. For more information on MacPAD, see <http://www.macshareware.net/sdk.html>.

To get Shovel and try it out, point your browser at:

<http://www.zathras.de/programming/my_applications.php>

Note that this is a preview version of Shovel to solicit feedback from developers and to encourage developers to adopt MacPAD as a standard. Let me know your thoughts!

Cheers,
M. Uli Kusterer
