Re: Spotlight Plugins don't immediately work?

Your correct, about Spotlight (at least to the best of my knowledge).
And your right again with your suggestion for the Application to handle this problem instead of the plug-in.
A simple fix (for Apple <wink> <wink>) would be to add a Folder Action Script that runs the needed command when a Spotlight plug-in is added to the Spotlight plug-ins folder.
Also on that note a simple Apple Script could work as the installer for a Spotlight plug-in; that way the user doesn't have to interact more than double clicking the script. Just a thought.

As I understand it Spotlight uses the presence of your plug-in in the

Couldn't you add a check to the initialization of your application to

look for your plug-in in the proper Spotlight folder and if its not

found prompt your user with a dialog asking them if they wish to put

the plug-in in there and update Spotlight (using mdimport and proper

administrative login of course) ? Would that be a bad design principle
