Try using Gestalt() then to get the system version. You can search the list
archives for details.


    Actually, the Gestalt documentation specifically says to use the
    /System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion.plist file.


Wow, I never would have believed it, but it does say that.
For years, the opposite was true--Gestalt was recommended above using the SystemVersion plist. I thought older versions of OS X Server lacked that file entirely (but our 10.4.2 Server has it).
I am going to ask in CarbonDev why this recommendation was made. _______________________________________________
