I'm wondering how to get lower-level access to the language
dictionary that's in use. I'm thinking of an application that
involves some word play and would need such things as lists of
rhymes and of words matching some regular expression.
Syllabification would be another necessary feature.
NSSpellChecker makes available only spellchecking, word count, and
completion. You will need to go elsewhere for word lists and the like.
