Re: Background if Login Item launched

My apologies to the list. I wasn't clear in my original question what I meant by "background". I'm not trying to make this a "hidden" or background only application. It should appear in the Dock in all cases, and when brought to the front and made active by the user, display it's window and menu. I just don't want it to become active (ie, frontmost application) at Login until the user selects the Dock icon.

I have an application that normally is launched as a Login Item, but
the first time, it is launched by the user. I need to detect which
method is used, and suppress the application from becoming the active
application if launched as a Login Item.

How can I detect if the application is launched via the Login Items?

How can I force the application to remain in the background after it
is launched, even if it is the last or only Login Item?
