I've seen a similar problem. It was caused by an imbalance in
GSave/GRestore calls in the window's context. One of my views
had a GSave without a corresponding GRestore and it left the
drawing system in a bad state. Depending on what you did in the
window, you could end up with a blank toolbar.

Well, shoot. I don't have any Save/Restore pairs in this window at
all :\
