NSTextView - suppress insertion point drawing from delegate?

Is it possible(*) to suppress insertion point drawing via NSTextView's delegate? Or is this a subclass and replace the field editor as necessary situation.

[*] It appears that there is a delegate method that WebKit internals use for this purpose, but I don't see mention of it in the public headers or docs...
