Well, you could create an untitled document and use that as "nil". Or I suppose you could just handle the exception as well. Out of curiosity, what are you doing?

A "e-mail" like app, where editing the subject line updates the filename, just to get the window title correct. There are no real files, I just like the freebies from using a document based app :).
