Mark,
Thanks for your precise answer to my question:
Given a folder, how can I create an array of its contents?
How could I have gotten an answer myself? That is, knowing that
buried somewhere in the ADC Reference Library haystack is a needle
(which will turn out to be [NSFileManager
directoryContentsAtPath:path], although I don't know that yet), how
would I find it, knowing only that I want to create an array of the
contents of a given folder?

This is one of those cases where you have either heard of the
NSFileManager before, or you haven't. If you haven't yet, consider
investing in a few Cocoa books and reading through them; you will
find a lot of useful stuff at your fingertips that you never knew you
had.
