That's an awful lot of work, and you assume that a user has Ethernet access
you can get a hold of. What about a good old serial number? Like Photoshop,
you can make it network savvy so that only one version could run at a time.
Yes, I can unhook my network and boot two copies (like I can run multiple
copies of software with a dongle by launching and removing the dongle. Most,
but not all software only looks for the dongle at launch).

There will never be 100% secure way of doing any of this. People will steal
your software, that's a fact of life (and the reason software is as
expensive as it is). What software companies don't want to do is over look
the good people that do pay for their software and make the use of the
software so annoying.
