Photoshop 7 & monitor profiles

Photoshop 7 seems to have created some issues with current monitor profiling
software. ICC Display profiles suddenly made images display darker, & is
apparently being "fixed", and ColorVision updated PhotoCal & OptiCal (one of
the features being "Photoshop 7 support").

I understood that PS just called Colorsync for the monitor profile for the
working space > display 'transform'. Since neither Colorsync nor the monitor
profile has changed, I'm wondering what changed in Photoshop 7's display
technology to cause this to "break" some profiles? Any other changes with
implications for display or soft proofing?

Thanks for any info,

John
