Sorry for the long delay in getting back to this message...
ColorThink Pro will show these attribute flags correctly and allow you to edit them.. in the meantime I'm afraid you might need to go with the hex editor (good mental gymnastics!)
We will be at Print05 launching ColorThink Pro for those who are interested...
