When I was involved in building a digital camera for Sinar in 1987, I talked
to some scientists who were involved in building Landsat imagers. When I
asked how the stepped the linear array, they told me that they had the
world's most stable and precise scanning device - "We just place the linear
array up there, and then let the earth move past it!"
