Re: Documentation on proofing systems



This really goes to the question of people forgetting what the proof is. It
is a contract on color reproduction. A somewhat imprecise one in that it was
not possible to adapt easily to different stocks. Still, the old methodology
of pulling a proof from film was the best that was available for the old
workflow. And yes, it showed dot marvelously and was usually hittable on
press-although not every problem showed up. Now that we have improved the
workflow by going direct to plate, and we have devised printing
methodologies (inkjet) that can simulate many different scenarios, the old
methodology is no longer the best available.

With this digital age of lithography comes new proofing methods...it is part
of the manufacturing world getting more efficient.

Tell them a conventional contract proof is 'so last century'.
