Another printshop I know had an interesting story. They went the CTP
route and set up Epson 7600's driven by a BestColor RIP. They also
secured a source for Kodak Approvals. When the clients requested dot
proofs, representatives of the printshop could smile and say of course
we can do that…for x number of dollars. I spoke to the CEO about
18-months into their venture and they hadn't sold even 1 Approval. Once
clients were informed of the price difference they accepted the inkjet
proofs.
We, too, have had to secure an Approval for a client. Just one.
The only compelling arguments I've heard for dot-proofs were on another
forum and came from members of the packaging industry.
