that's a very good point. The colorants in inkjets still require some maturation don't they..
When we build reference profiles from existing proofing systems for use in inkjet proofs, soft proofs, etc I always try to get them to get a non-inkjet proof made for the reference. It is a much more stable thing to use as a target for matching and also behaves more like press color in different lighting.
Controlled lighting helps color a lot but we are continually challenged by customers who don't have good lighting and don't realize the necessity. On the larger scale of things lighting is really not that expensive and should be an integral part of any graphics system budget.
