Re: How to get great prints- was Re: Shiraz rip

Hi Diana and all others,

as noted (among others) by Bruce and Andrew, 2200 isĀ  great printer.
And today - choose one of Epson K3 printers, as is EVEN better.

I have 4800 and 2400 in test in few past weeks, and i can say that printing quality is exciting, color and B/W too (stunning B/W:).
Diana, you don't need any RIP, print through standard drivers is superb (note, new drivers come with K3 printers), especially if you can make your own profiles (but print via Epson generic profiles can satisfy you too, i think). With my friend, czech photographer Petr Salek (art33.com), i am preparing profiles for 9800 (pre production sample, lend by Epson) as we must make large format prints on the canvas for major exhibition - i am writing about this because majority of the prints is done through drivers - and Petr is skilled and demanding user. We only use RIP (Onyx PosterShop) for prints exceed ca 3m in large.
Last note: consider ink cartridges price 2400 vs 4800, even in 220 ml version.

Best regards,

Kamil Tresnak, Prague

Greetings,

I am also overwhelmed, here.

I just want to be able (at this point) to print out
an excellent portfolio, of my beautifully retouched
images.

Frustrated with the Epson 1280, right now,
am finding it a Herculean task to even find profiles
and paper which work well with it, on Tiger.
(anyone on this list even remember the 1280?)
Should I even spend money on a rip for it?

OR should I give up the 1280,
and buy WHICH printer
with WHICH RIP, that won't break the bank?

I don't have much extra cash at the moment,
and need to get my portfolio out there.
But I also want to think in terms of the next few
years.
