1. There should be no calibration curve active on the display. You can
check this with Apples programm "Gammas". If this is not the case you
have to choose a profile which resets the video card LUT. In Tiger
many of the default profiles will do this. In Panther you'll have to
find a profile like the "D"-profile for example from the homepage from
www.brucelindbloom.com

2. Reset the display to the default values of whitepoint (some
displays offer also a "native" setting)

3. Measure the white point on a white desktop with any device capable of
measuring TFT's. If possible note the xy-values instead of the color
temperature.

Calibration packages which offer a "native whitepoint" calibration
often still modify the video cards LUT (I'm not aware of any
exceptions). You can check this again with Apples  Gammas (example
application in the developer package). I have a zipped version
uploaded here, so that you don't need to install the developer tools
just to get a tiny sample application:
