RE: Dell 2005fpw vs 20" Apple Cinema Display

Thanks for the response. I agree with your comments on the Apple Cinema Displays. I hear a lot of people saying how good they are, but they just seem rather inconsistent. If I can get the same level of inconsistency in a cheaper monitor, than why not go for that one. ;-)

I actually use an Eizo CG21, but we often purchase monitor for client softproofing, usually non color critical.

Thanks again,

mike

The White House photo lab uses Dell flat panels. Historically these screens are good. . . but only 80% of an Eizo. Apple Cinema displays seem to be either very good or mediocre, with debatable quality control. I know this is not a clear black and white answer to your question. The bottom line is that you are taking your chances with either manufacturer and should get an unconditional satisfaction guarantee prior to making any purchase.

Is anyone out there using the Dell 2005fpw LCD in a color conscious (if not color critical) environment and could you comment on its performance? I recently read a comparison to the Apple Cinema display, seeing how they use identical panels, though difference backlights, is there a major difference between the two…other than price.
