When using the "Photo-realistic" setting (Print dialog box -> Color
management -> Color Controls -> Mode: Photo-realistic) to create a
profile,
do you also check the "EPSON Natural Color" checkbox, or not? And which
Gamma do you select, 1.8 or 2.2?
This is a very interesting question. My understanding of the EPSON
Natural Color checkbox employs a gamut expansion algorithm of sorts.
Thus, even colors out of gamut for sRGB, could be assumed by the
algorithm and printed even though they aren't in the image. I've done
little image testing with this setting, but if it's not dynamic
(different behavior on a per image basis), and it's well behaved, this
could be a good compromise between the far better behaved Photo
Realistic mode, and the better gamut No Color Adjustment mode.
For gamma, I've seen no evidence that it matters so long as you
remember the setting you used to build the profile. Theoretically gamma
2.2 would improve on shadow detail, since more bits are dedicated to
shadows with image gamma 2.2 compared to image gamma 1.8.
I also assume that you leave all controls (brightness, contrast,
saturation,
etc.) at zero, correct?
Yes, but mostly because it's easier to remember the settings, and
because I really don't feel like experimenting with every single one of
these controls and then building a profile to see if it provides any
useful behavior (which I doubt anyway).
