ColorSync Profile name length - Take 2

I recently brought up the point that current version of ProfileMakerPro for
the Mac still suffered from what I then called "archaic" and "crippling"
file naming convention, imposing the old OS9 32 characters file name limit
to profile file names. It was suggested to me then that the root of this
problem could be traced to Apple's current ColorSync system "profile
manager" implementation. Fine.

Tonight, I was routinely dragging some freshly created profile off my PC (I
know, I know) to my Mac, for usage in the Creative Suite. Well, I looked at
the file name of those profiles and it occurred to me that there were quite
a bit of characters in there. So, when I finally moved them over to the
ColorSync > Profile folder, hey, all the characters in the file name were
still intact! And those profiles showed up as good citizens under Photoshop
menus and what not.

So, this looks to me like the french expression "two weights two
measurements" (deux poids, deux mesures). What's going on Apple? Why are you
*not* having problems with those profiles created under a foreign system
that don't abide by your strict 32 characters file name convention?

Unless I still did not get it?
