Re: ColorSync in Mac OS X 10.4 & Automator

I have not one, but two customers really angry at me for having sold
them iQueue. Yes, it's conceptually sound. But the postscript errors
(at least when dealing with queues to Xerox Phaser color laser
printers) were unacceptable. I mean, I could live with one error a
week (which for this customers would mean one in 300 files). But
having a handful of errors, if not more, every day...

So I have also been toying with exactly the same idea Dwane is
pursuing. I mean, I owe this customers a solution. In my case it's a
little more complicated since I need to accept postscript also, and to
print automatically.

So the steps to follow are:

1) if original file was ps or eps, then distill (to pdf 1.3)
discarding all embedded color (CSAs, embedded profiles, etc)
2) discard any embedded profiles (in case original file was PDF instead of PS)
3) source->destination using:
RGB source: a "checker profile" (one that yields ridiculous colors, to
flag any RGB elements)
CMYK source: press profile (e.g. Gracol TR004 or ISO)
CMYK (or RGB) destination: the printer
4) putting into printer queue

ideally all via OSX's built-in tools (including the distilling) ; what
I have not been able to discern is whether these steps can be carried
out by OSX/Automator
for example, when OSX does ps->pdf, is there a way to discard/ignore
CSAs and embedded profiles?
or if dealing with a PDF file, is there a way to discard embedded profiles?
and so on....
