In my Photoshop the default viewing mode ist the attached Profile of the Picture.
That means the RGB-workingspace for CMYK or Lab pictures, who are converted automaticly to RGB when using SFW, or for RGB pictures the actual profile.

The only bug there, is the allways checked last option in the viewing mode dialog, independent of what the preview is actually showing.
