The "Extract Profile" script that comes standard with Script Editor in the
Macintosh OS works for me without a hitch (in OS 10.3.9). And, like yours,
it does indeed contain the expression "theFileName".

Have you tried running a maintenance utility for your system, like Cocktail?
That may clear up the problem.
