That’s understandable—it’s a lot of money! I have a DTP41 which as far as I know is the model before the DTP70. It’s a very good device, but if the DTP70 operates in a similar way, it’s really not much less work than the i1 with the ruler. After printing the charts, first you have to trim the paper to size. Then you have to feed one column at a time, sometimes re-feeding the same column if there is a mis-read which can happen often depending on the type of paper being fed. You also need to use your hands to “track” the chart as it feeds so that it continues through in a straight line.

So the point is, you still have to babysit it the whole time. I had a Spectrocam when they first came out and that was certainly better than measuring one patch at a time, but the ruler design made it difficult. The ruler for the new i1Pros is so much improved that it’s really not too bad. I got rid of the Spectrocam for the DTP41. Assuming that the DTP70 reads charts in the same way as the DTP41, in my opinion you will not save much effort, if any, over the i1, so I’d still stick with the i1...
