The only real problem that I see with the idea is sheets are attached to a
window, and the window that the AUView is contained within is not specific
to the AUView. Take for example AudioUnitHosting, where the entire
application interface, and also the current AUView, are all in one window.
If you tried out your sheet-producing AU in there, I'm sure you'd see what
I'm talking about. The result is weird and inappropriate because the
sheet is attached to the app's window in a way that doesn't seem attached
to the plugin view. If you look at the Apple Human Interface Guidelines,
you'll also see that your idea is a misuse of sheets, basically because of
what I'm talking about.
