In my universe (and in all my dsp textbooks), the Impulse Response is time domain, the Transfer Function is frequency domain (with digital systems, z-transform equivalent of frequency response). Convolution in the one is equivalent to multiplication in the other. And so on. If that is your view also, we are from the same universe.
