This could indeed be a bug in Logic then. If you don't begin and end a
gesture no parameter automation is being recorded in Logic 8 (please
see my post "Cocoa AU template, AUParameterSet and Logic automation"
that contains a test AU to verify this behaviour).

cases it won't be called if you are doing a one off set parameter
call).
