I've perfectly understood your mail. Unless you wrote something different from what you meant, of course.

It's a common misunderstanding tasks with low average processing requirements should show low processor usage at any time. This is not the case.

Several seconds? I wouldn't call this a "spike". I'd use Shark to find out what the process is doing all this time.
