Darwin getifaddrs  you can check at freeBSD too

http://plumber.gnu-darwin.org/pub/projects/system_info-1/sysinfo_inet.c

is not yet AF-independent
but it's fully BSD* and give u a view

kern.posix1version = 200112
user.posix2_version = 200112
