Re: Troubleshooting a hang.

I would think a system profiler report along with an indication of the device you think is at fault, would be enough to start. If the people looking at the radar need more info after that, they'll get in touch.

Kevin,

Yes, I know... my question wasn't "how do I file a bug for this". It was "how do I collect the necessary information for this type of a hang so that by bug report, which I intend to file at bugreporter.apple.com is complete so that it has a better chance of being understood by the engineers that need to figure out the problem". Sorry I should have been more clear.

It doesn't seem like just saying "My computer hangs when a USB device is plugged in" is enough for Apple to troubleshoot the problem. ;)

Is a system profiler report enough? Would it be more helpful to Apple if I got into EFI land and then plugged in the device and ran some (unknown to me) commands? That's why I'm posting to the list - to determine what needs to be done from a triage perspective so that my bug report is sufficient.

I asked the Darwin list because it seems the most likely place to get a good answer on how to get an appropriate bug filed, but now that I look at lists.apple.com again, there's a boot-dev list... I think I'll post there instead.

The best place to file a bug for any Apple product is <http://developer.apple.com/bugreporter/ >.
