IOUserClient::getNotificationSemaphore()?

I would like to use getNotificationSemaphore() from IOUserClient. I'd
like to create a semaphore in the kernel and be able to access it from
my user space client. The semaphore would be used as a signal from the
kernel process to user space.

How do I call the kernel getNotificationSemaphore() from user space? I
have not been able to find the corresponding user space API for this.
