FireWire support in Darwin (for use with cdrecord)

Hello,

I have been able to successfully build the open source cdrecord program
(http://www.fokus.gmd.de/research/cc/glone/employees/joerg.schilling/private
/cdrecord.html) on my G4 Cube running Mac OS X Public Beta. However, one
requirement for this program is that a SCSI driver be present.

My G4 Cube uses an external FireWire drive, the Que Fire PX1210A
(http://www.qps-inc.com/products/121032_CDRW.pdf) which is a Plextor
12x/10x/32x ATA drive with a FireWire bridge inside the case.

I did a bit of research into the FireWire support of the IOKit in Mac OS X
PB, but it appears to have very limited info and very unstable drivers. I
also peeked into the Darwin CVS tree and it appears that there has been a
lot of changes and improvements since the release of Mac OS X PB.

My question is, how difficult would it be to get cdrecord and FireWire/IOKit
support to work together? I am not very familiar with the IOKit and have
been unable to find enough info to even know where to start coding.

Any other helpful tips or advice would be welcomed.
