You have been sadly misinformed.

CPU SPECint95 SPECfp95
604e 250 MHz 11.1 8.8

11.1 / 250 = .0444
8.8 / 250 = .0352

7400 450 MHz 21.4 20.4

21.4 / 450 = .04755555556
20.4 / 450 = .04533333333

Alpha 21164 600 MHz 19.3 28.5

19.3 / 600 = .03216666667
28.5 / 600 = .0475

The 21264 is clearly the strongest processor MHz for MHz on the market today.

Unless you run it in California where the electricity costs of running that
Alpha would clearly make the 604e or G4 a better performer $ for $.

How does the saying go? "Money talks, .... walks." ;-)

Purely in the interests of fairness, I think you ought to include the processor that Tim actually claimed was fastest:

Alpha 21264 667 MHz 40.1 83.6

40.1 / 667 = 0.060
83.6 / 667 = 0.125

Alpha 21264 833 MHz 50.0 100.0

50.0 / 833 = 0.060
100.0 / 833 = 0.120

So, I'm not arguing one side or the other, but Tim's data would suggest that the 21264 is indeed quite fast, and that Jim neglected the message's primary content. Ah well.
