I recently installed the new version of PGP and noticed that it installs a kext into /Library/Extensions (after creating the directory). This has been a long running complaint with kext installation so can someone at apple clarify if PGP is doing something proper? If this is supported when did it change? Are kext that load during booting supported?

Apple does it themselves if you install the CHUD tools (though their extensions >are located somewhere inside their startupitem's directory structure and not in >/Library/Extensions).

Ick. I find that disturbing. Norton utilities also appears to do some odd things along the same lines. It appears they create a sym link in /System/Library/Extensions to their kext installed in /Library/Application Support. Stuff like that gives me the creeps...
