Compiler difference between Mac OS X and Darwin

Hi,

I have been able to compile gcc-7 and gcc3-1302 on Mac
OS 10.2. When I try to compile the same source on
Darwin 6.02 (with compiler patch) I get errors in the
configure process.

...
checking whether the C compiler (gcc -g) works... no
configure: error; installation or configuration
problem: C compiler cannot create executables.
...

The commands I use are from the gcc3 Apple make file:
gnumake install CC='cc -no-pre-comp' RC_OS=macos
RC_ARCHS=ppc TARGETS=ppc \
SRCROOT=`pwd` OBJROOT=`pwd`/build/obj \
DSTROOT=`pwd`/build/dst SYMROOT=`pwd`/build/sym

What do I have to change to get this to work on
Darwing (ppc).
