tcsh: Out of memory

I have seen two instances of 'Out of memory' errors while in a sudo -s session that caused the shell (tcsh) to crash and bringing me back to the parent shell.

Both these instances were cause (I believe) by a tab command completion.
The machine has plenty of disk space for vm.

This is what happened (I was completing nslookup, hitting tag after nslo:

[drum:/usr/local/exim] root# nsloOut of memory.
[drum:~] g%
[drum:~] g% vm_stat

There were 2GB free on the partition so that could not be the problem.
No messages in the system.log or console.log.

I could not find any core dumps in /cores /bin or /usr/local/exim (and that other location that now escapes me..).

This is the output from uname -a
Darwin drum.humph.com 6.2 Darwin Kernel Version 6.2: Tue Nov 5 22:00:03 PST 2002; root:xnu/xnu-344.12.2.obj~1/RELEASE_PPC Power Macintosh powerpc

Did the process reach its limits:

[drum:~] root# limit
...
datasize 6144 kbytes
stacksize 512 kbytes
coredumpsize 0 kbytes
memoryuse unlimited
...

perhaps the stacksize? And should I set coredumpsize to some nonzero value or is it ineffectual?
