"weak library" warning?

Hello, all ...

What exactly does this mean:

ld: warning dynamic shared library: /sw/lib/libdl.dylib not made a weak library in output with MACOSX_DEPLOYMENT_TARGET environment variable set to: 10.1

I've resisted the urge to just find where MACOSX_DEPLOYMENT_TARGET is set and set it to, say, 10.2, but I want to know what this warning is trying to tell me. What is a "weak" library and how does it relate to 10.1 or 10.2?
