The Dec2002 devtools fix this problem. I completely understand about it being a headache, it was, but it's now fixed in the latest devtools. I can send you a test case if you want, which you can run to illustrate the problem (to see if it's the same problem you see -- it sounds like it is), and also to see that the Dec2002 devtools indeed solve it. Praise Apple!

my problem is with a template function which contains a static var.
if the function is called more then once then the linker complains about
multiple defined variable. I assume its a result of the .dylib not allowing
to put variables in a common area but that it only a wild guess.
