perl 5.8 and oracle on os x

I am trying to build the perl dbi on os x. but am having a lot of trouble with the oracle dbd with perl 5.8.

it looks like oracle's library libclntsh has added dynamic loading stuff that appears to be missing from perl 5.6 in the version that comes with osx.

it looks like to make this work you have to build perl without dynamic loading and include the DBI module in the perl build.

is there a better way?? I wish i could just expunge the dlopen stuff from the oracle library which i could do with a static library using ar, but i don't know how to do this with a dynamic library.
