ACE 5.2.2 beta available (including Darwin support)

Hello, all ...

I'd like to let everyone know that the latest version of
ACE (Adaptive Communications Environment, a
cross-platform system-framework for implementing
all sorts of network programming stuff in C++),
version 5.2.2, is available at the ACE web site:

http://deuce.doc.wustl.edu/Download.html

(choose "Latest Beta Kit")

Anyway, i've tested this on a Pismo 500, TiBook 500,
iBook 300 and dual-proc G4 500, under OS X 10.1.3
(as well as a 9500 clone running LinuxPPC 2000).
I've not been able to test on a Darwin-only box, but it
should work (use config-macosx.h and
platform_macosx.GNU ... the filenames should be
changed to config-darwin.h and
platform_darwin.GNU in the next release). I dunno
about Darwin on Intel ... if anyone would like to test
this out and let me know if it works on their boxes, i'd
be quite appreciative.

Also ... i'd like some pointers on how to properly
enhance the ACE Darwin / OS X port to support
threads (ACE does threads on other platforms, but
the thread tests fail on Darwin / OS X because of
certain APIs that aren't there). I'm not new to
threading, but most of my dev experience has been
on Win32, and i'm trying to get decent on *nix (esp.
Darwin / OS X).

Regards,

John
